The style manual for History is The Chicago Manual of Style. For getting started, we recommend A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses and Dissertations, which is based on Chicago.
Examples of Chicago style are included in our Citation Style Guides. There also is an excellent online guide to styles, including Chicago, at Purdue University's Online Writing Lab.
