    15 == Setting up the Dymo !LabelWriter 450 on Windows 10 for printing spine labels in Evergreen ==
     7Setting up browser-based printing consists of the following steps (one time per browser / workstation, thankfully):
    168
    17 Please see the excellent documentation for [https://sagelib.org/help/setting-spine-label-printer-windows-10 setting up a Dymo LabelWriter 450 on Windows 10] written by the SAGE Library System.
     91. Download the template file from https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rwYkH9UohpfGh1DRqvMLvm2yol_OX01p
     101. Open the **Print spine labels** window from **Show -> Print Spine Labels** on an item **Actions** menu
     111. On the **Print spine labels** window, click the **Import** button. A file browser dialogue opens.
     121. Select the template file you downloaded. A status message will pop up on the lower right saying that you have successfully imported the template. However, the new template will not yet be listed in the **Templates** drop-down menu.
     131. Close the **Print spine labels** window.
     141. Re-open the **Print spine labels** window from **Show -> Print Spine Labels** on an item **Actions** menu
     151. From the **Templates** drop-down menu, select **Spiny**. Click **Apply**.
     161. Press Print. The print dialogue will open.
     171. Chrome defaults to its own print dialogue, in which you must:
     18  a. Select the **Dymo !LabelWriter** printer
     19  a. Select **Pages -> Custom** and enter "1"
     20  a. Under **Advanced** set **Paper size** to **30347** (1" x 1.5")
     21  a. Under **Advanced** set **Margins** to **Minimum**
     22  a. Under **Advanced** set **Scale** to **Default**
     23  a. Under **Advanced** ensure the **Options -> Headers and footers** is cleared.

    19 === TIPS ===
     25When you hit print, you should get a working spine label and the browser will remember your print settings from then on. The only thing you should need to change in the future is the Pages setting (to avoid wasting labels) and possibly the Printer if you also print receipts, etc, from the same workstation.
    2026
    21 If the printer skips a label first adjust the label length.  If it is off by one, it can cause the printer to form feed multiple labels.  Some users have reported that, when printing pocket labels, the label length must be one more than the actual length.
    22
    23 == Spine Spine and Pocket Label Printing ==
    24
    25 Printing from Integrated Library Systems to standard format and label printers is often challenging.
    26
    27 === Basic Printing Overview ===
    28  1. Printing spine and pocket labels can be done while creating item records.
    29  2. To print a label, search for and bring up the record in the catalogue.
    30  3. Click on ''Actions for this Record'' and go to ''Holdings Maintenance''.
    31  4. Click on the first holdings line; then click on ''Actions for Selected Rows''.
    32  5. Select ''Create Volume''; the '''Volume/Copy Editor''' window appears.
    33  6. Notice that there is a button in the upper right that is labeled ''Print Labels?''
    34  7. Check the box next to it.  Then go ahead and create your volume and one copy.

    37
    38 '''TIP:''' As you use Evergreen’s printing functions, note any problems that come up or needed enhancements, so that the CONIFER group can address them.
    39
    40 === Spine Label Parameters ===
    41
    42 The Printing screen will appear.
    43
    44
    45 [insert image]
    46
    47 From this screen you can fill in the various values that you need for margins and width of the spine and pocket labels, the font size, and the information you want included on the labels. You can also edit the call number if you wish.
    48
    49 The spine label parameters are listed under the Spine Label heading and include only:
    50  * Left Margin (in characters)
    51  * Label Width (in characters)
    52  * Label Length (in lines)
    53
    54 '''NOTE:'''  Spine labels will include only the call number.
    55
    56 The pocket label parameters are much more numerous.
    57
    58 [insert image]
    59
    60 They are listed under Pocket Label heading and consist of:
    61
    62  * Middle Margin (in characters)
    63  * Label Width (in characters)
    64  * Label Length (in lines)
    65
    66 Plus the following choices that can be made by checking or un-checking the boxes to the left and then filling in the number to the right:
    67
    68 === Pocket Label Parameters ===
    69
    70 ||Include Title (wraps on word at label width)||On line ##||
    71 ||Include Title (segment after wrapping)||On line ##||

    76 ||Include Shelving Location||On line ##||
    77 ||Include Item barcode||On line ##||
    78
    79 In addition, there are four fields for customizing with macros (e.g. creating special messages, etc. for printing drawn from the bibliographic and holdings records), as well as list of pre-configured macros accessed through the ''Available Macros'' button at the bottom of the '''Printing''' screen.

    99 === TIPS ===
    100
    101 ==== Creating Spine Labels ====
    102
    103 To create a spine label, first make sure that the checkbox across from '''Pocket Label''' heading is not checked. Then fill in the values for the label and check the call number in the label window to the right. You can edit the call number in that window if necessary.
    104
    105 If you have made any changes to the pre-set parameters, you will then click on the ''Re-Generate'' button in the upper left to set the changes.  Next, click on the ''Preview and Print'' button.  The label will be printed.
    106
    107 ==== Creating Pocket Labels ====
    108
    109 To create a pocket label, first make sure that the checkbox across from '''Pocket Label''' heading is checked.  Then fill in the values for the pocket label and check the call number in the label window to the right.  You can edit the call number in that window if necessary.
    110
    111 If you have made any changes to the pre-set parameters, you will then click on the ''Re-Generate'' button in the upper left to set the changes. Next, click on the ''Preview and Print'' button.  The label will be printed.
    112
    113 ==== Printing FAQs ====
    114
    115  '''Question'''::
    116     How do you print multiple copies of labels for large numbers of issues for any particular journal?
    117
    118  '''Answer'''::
    119     The ''Print Spine Label'' function is now working.  You should see that it invokes the standard '''Windows Print''' dialog screen, on which appears a # of copies box that defaults to 1, but which you can set whatever number of copies you require.
    120
    121 [[BR]]
    122
    123
    124  '''Question'''::
    125     How do you switch between different types of printers (e.g. standard vs. label)?
    126
    127  '''Answer'''::
    128     After you click ''Print Page'' on the '''Preview and Print''' page, the '''Windows Print''' dialogue is exposed and you have the option of changing the printer from the system default at that time.
    129
    130 [[BR]]
    131
    132
    133   '''Question'''::
    134      Why does it take so many steps to print?
    135
    136  '''Answer'''::
    137     Currently, in a best case scenario, to print a single spine label today takes five mouse clicks:
    138     * One to bring up the context menu (either a right-click, or ''Actions for selected rows'');
    139     * One to select ''Print spine label'' from the context menu;
    140     * One to click '''Preview and print''' button (assuming the font size and call number are perfect) ;
    141     * One to click ''Print page'' button on the preview page;
    142     * One to click the ''Print button'' on the '''Windows print dialogue'''.
     27You might need to tweak the font size under Settings, depending on how many rows are on your call numbers.
