Editing serials

Serials support in Evergreen consists of one or more ​MARC Format for Holdings Data (MFHD) records that point to a given bibliographic record.

Current features

• Serial holdings are scoped by library
• MFHD records will point to the surviving record if the underlying bibliographic records are merged
• MFHD records can be edited with the MARC editor

To add a new issue, supplement, or index

1. Retrieve the record in the staff client. The holdings summary statements will appear under the main bibliographic section.
2. Click the Edit link that appears beside the pertinent holdings summary heading. A MARC editor window will appear, containing the MFHD record for that set of holdings.
3. Position your cursor in the 86[345] field and press CTRL+Up or CTRL+Down to copy the field above or below your cursor.
4. Edit the new field, taking care to increment the $8 <sequence number> and to reflect the enumeration and chronology of the new issue/supplement/index in the remaining subfields.
5. Click Save MFHD to save the MFHD record with the new information. At this time, you have to manually close the MFHD editor.
6. Press Shift+F8 to reload the bibliographic record and check to ensure that the holding statement was updated as expected.

To add a new MFHD record or delete an MFHD record

Currently, you have to contact Dan Scott to add a new MFHD record to an existing or new bibliographic record or to delete an MFHD record. The more he has to do this, the more he's going to want to enable you to do it yourself.
