In an effort to ensure the preservation of their records and to facilitate access, the Anglican Diocese of Moosonee has deposited their records at the Laurentian University Archives. We provide access under the policies and conditions stipulated by the Diocese of Moosonee.
The records deposited in the archives were generated by the Synod Office and by parishes of the Diocese. The parochial records are the only records located in the Archives with information that could be relevant to genealogical research.
The Anglican Diocese of Moosonee, Synod Office fonds (P032) consists of administrative and historical diocesan records documenting the history of the Diocese of Moosonee. A full description of the fonds is available on Archeion.
The Laurentian University Archives holds records for 69 parishes in the Diocese of Moosonee. These records comprise the Anglican Diocese of Moosonee, Parish fonds (P032-01 - P032-60). These fonds contain documents that were produced, received, and accumulated by Anglican parishes within the Diocese of Moosonee as part of their duties and activities.
Parish registers are a primary resource in the Parish fonds. Due to the fragile state of preservation of the parish registers and the nature of the information, these records are not accessible to researchers. Individuals may, however, submit a search request for a baptism, marriage, or burial record. The search will be performed by Archives staff.
For instructions on how to submit a search request, please see the How to submit a search request section below.

To request a search for your own baptism or marriage record from the Anglican Diocese of Moosonee Parish fonds, please fill out the Anglican Diocese of Moosonee Search Request form with as much information as possible, and submit it by email to archives@laurentian.ca along with a copy of your photo ID.
To request a search for a baptism, marriage, or burial record for someone other than yourself, please consult the Anglican Diocese of Moosonee Access Policy for guidance. The document outlines the policies and conditions for accessing the Parochial fonds. It will allow you to determine your eligibility for access and the information that you will need prior to making a request.
If the Archives are successful in locating the requested baptism, marriage, or burial record, we will create an extract from the parish register and mail the extract to the mailing address provided on the Search Request form.
Extracts are created by typing the information from the parish register into an electronic document exactly as it appears in the register.
If the extract is being requested in order to be submitted to the government, the Archives can provide an authenticated extract, which is signed and stamped with the Library and Archives seal.
For instructions on how to submit a search request, please see the How to submit a search request section above.
